GIs in Ashchurch during World War II

From 1942 to 1944 in particular the suburban village of Ashchurch,

then just outside Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire,

acted as host to thousands of GIs,

who set up one of the most important logistical bases for the D-Day landings in Britain.

The base had a deep impact on life in Tewkesbury,

as a source of employment and social life during a very austere war regime.

Visitors to this website will be able to access two areas of interest:

1.    a list, in alphabetical order,

of some of the GIs who served here

2.    a History of Ashchurch Camp

during World War II through eyes of 622 OBAM
